Lobo Lab
BioInspired Materials Laboratory
Lobo Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research group located in UFPI"s Technological Center, in the state of Piaui (northeastern part of Brazil). Within the region, our lab is considered a pioneer of developing novel micro/nanoscaled technologies for the purpose of minimally invasive therapeutics. We have accumulated experience and expertise in biomaterials engineering, cell/tissue engineering, biofabrication, and organ-on-a-chip that facilitates technological translation from the lab to clinics in order to improve society as a whole.
Specifically, by incorporating soft biological material design principles into synthetic polymer platforms, we seek to enhance control, advance function and expand applications of polymer materials. Our materials are “bioinspired” because they mimic some of the fascinating ways that nature builds materials.
By establishing a synergy between innovative structure-property studies of model biological materials and successful applications of bio-inspired synthetics, the BioMatLab continuously contributes to the field of bio-inspired materials engineering and also adds to the fundamental elucidation of nature’s advanced functional material design.
